Sulfasalazine for Ulcerative Colitis

If you have mild-to-moderately active
ulcerative colitis, your healthcare provider may recommend sulfasalazine (Azulfidine®). This medication comes in the form of a tablet that is usually taken three to six times a day. For more severe cases of ulcerative colitis, sulfasalazine may be combined with other medications.

This drug not only helps to reduce the symptoms of ulcerative colitis -- it also helps prevent symptoms from returning in people whose ulcerative colitis is in remission.
