Sulfasalazine (
Azulfidine®) is a prescription drug used to treat
ulcerative colitis. It comes in the form of a tablet that contains 500 mg of medication. The number of tablets that should be taken each day will depend on several factors, such as your age and whether your ulcerative colitis is active or in remission. In general, this medication is taken three to six times a day.
Sulfasalazine can be taken with or without food, but it should be taken at the same times each day. This will help keep an even level of the medicine in your blood.
