Pentasa Oral

Available by prescription only, Pentasa® (mesalamine) is used for the treatment of mild-to-moderately active ulcerative colitis. It is generally taken four times a day. The medication is available in two strengths and comes in the form of controlled-release capsules that are taken orally. Pentasa is generally well tolerated, but is known to cause side effects such as nausea and diarrhea.
Before starting treatment with Pentasa, tell your healthcare provider if you have any other medical conditions, such as cirrhosis or kidney failure. This medication is not suitable for everyone, so make sure your healthcare provider is also aware of any allergies you have and any other medications you are taking, including nonprescription drugs.
