Although various factors affect the amount of
Pentasa® (
mesalamine) that your healthcare provider recommends, 1 gram (four Pentasa 250 mg capsules or two Pentasa 500 mg capsules) four times daily is the usual starting dose when treating mild-to-moderate cases of
ulcerative colitis.
Pentasa capsules can be taken with or without food. You may find that taking them with food helps prevent stomach upset. In addition, this medication should be swallowed whole and not chewed, crushed, or opened. Do not adjust your dosage without your healthcare provider's approval and supervision.
