Colitis Home > Problems With Sulfasalazine
As with any medication, sulfasalazine (Azulfidine®) can sometimes cause problems. In clinical studies, some of the most commonly reported reactions included:
- Loss of appetite
- Headache
- Reversible low sperm count in men.
Fortunately, if side effects occur, they tend to be mild and easy to treat. However, there are some potentially serious reactions to sulfasalazine that require immediate medical attention. Contact your healthcare provider right away if you develop problems such as:
- Yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice)
- Easy bruising
- Worsening of ulcerative colitis symptoms.
