Colitis Home > Entocort Side Effects

For people who are taking Entocort EC, side effects that may occur include headaches, respiratory infections, and nausea. Problems such as tremors, insomnia, and ear infections are less common but may still occur. Some side effects of Entocort EC are potentially serious and should be immediately reported to a healthcare provider. These include rapid weight gain, swelling, and signs of an allergic reaction.

Entocort Side Effects: An Introduction

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Entocort® EC (budesonide EC). However, not everyone who takes the medication will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. When side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are easily treated by you or your healthcare provider.

(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with Entocort EC. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list of side effects with you.)

Common Entocort Side Effects

Entocort EC has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occur in a group of people taking the drug are documented and then compared to the side effects that occur in another group of people not taking the medicine. As a result, it is possible to see what side effects occur, how often they appear, and how they compare to the group not taking the medicine.

In these studies, the most common Entocort EC side effects included:

  • Headaches -- in up to 21 percent of people
  • Respiratory infections (such as the flu or pneumonia) -- up to 11 percent
  • Nausea -- up to 11 percent
  • Dizziness -- up to 7 percent
  • Indigestion or heartburn -- up to 6 percent.
