Infliximab Dangers

Although most people tolerate infliximab (Remicade®) well, it is not free of dangerous risks. Because this medication is not suitable for everyone, make sure you talk to your healthcare provider about the possible problems that may apply to you.

For example, infliximab has the potential to cause side effects. Some of the most common side effects seen with this drug include:

  • Infections
  • Headaches
  • Abdominal (stomach) pain.

Although side effects of infliximab tend to be minor, there are some serious reactions that require immediate medical attention. Contact your healthcare provider right away if you experience problems such as unexplained bruising, fever, or difficulty breathing.

Other potential dangers of infliximab apply to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as people who have certain allergies. Also, you may not be able to take this medication if you have problems such as a current infection, congestive heart failure, or multiple sclerosis.
