Humira and Breastfeeding

It is not known if Humira can pass through breast milk because no research has been done on Humira and breastfeeding. It is also not known what effects Humira might have on a breastfeeding infant. Therefore, if your healthcare provider recommends taking Humira while breastfeeding, be sure to watch for any side effects in your nursing baby.

 

Humira and Breastfeeding: An Overview

It is not known if Humira® (adalimumab) is passed through breast milk. Because of the potentially serious side effects that could occur in the nursing infant, the manufacturer of Humira recommends that healthcare providers consider the possible risks and benefits before recommending Humira while breastfeeding. Therefore, make sure to let your healthcare provider know if you are breastfeeding or thinking of breastfeeding.
