Humira® (adalimumab) is a prescription medicine licensed for the treatment of inflammatory conditions that affect the spine, joints, and digestive system. Specifically, it is used to improve symptoms of plaque psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, and Crohn's disease. The drug works by blocking the activity of tumor necrosis factor-alpha, a naturally occurring chemical in the body that is involved in inflammation and other immune system functions. Humira is given as an injection, usually once a week or every other week.
