Generic Humira

Generic Humira is currently not available because it is a "biologic." This means that it is under different rules and laws than most other medications. Until these laws and rules are changed, there may never be a generic Humira available. You should be aware that some places may claim to sell a generic version of Humira, but be advised that these medications are fake, substandard, and potentially dangerous.

 

Generic Humira: An Overview

Humira® (adalimumab) is a prescription medication that is approved to treat several inflammatory conditions that affect the joints, spine, and digestive system.
 
Specific uses of Humira include reducing the signs and symptoms of the following conditions:
 
Humira is manufactured by Abbott Pharmaceuticals. Technically, Humira is considered to be a "biologic," and is therefore under different rules and laws than most other medications. At this point, generic biologics, including generic Humira, are not allowed to be manufactured.
 
Yet, if you search the Internet for "generic Humira," you may find a number of companies selling it. The fact is that these medicines are fake, substandard, and potentially dangerous. There may be a generic Humira available from another country, but there is really no way of knowing if you are getting genuine Humira or not. Therefore, you should not buy any generic Humira until there is an approved generic available.
 

When Will a Generic Humira Be Available?

This is a difficult question. Unless the laws and rules are changed, generic Humira may never be available. However, it is likely that these rules and laws will be changed in the future.
