Crohn's disease is an illness characterized by areas of inflammation along the digestive tract -- most commonly near the end of the small intestine and in the colon. It is a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). This inflammation often affects several layers of the wall of the digestive tract. This can cause the intestines to empty more frequently, resulting in diarrhea. While Crohn's disease cannot be cured, lifelong treatment can help people with the condition lead active and productive lives.
