Is There a Cure for Crohn's Disease?
Despite advertising claims to the contrary, there is no cure for
Crohn's disease. While there is no proven Crohn's cure, treatments (including proper diet, lifestyle changes, and medications) can help control
symptoms of Crohn's disease.
Controlling Crohn's Through Treatment
If you have Crohn's disease, you can make changes in your diet and lifestyle to control your symptoms. You might need to:
- Limit dairy products and alcohol
- Try low-fat foods
- Experiment with how much protein and fiber you eat
- Avoid problem "gassy" foods
- Eat smaller and more frequent meals.
It is also important to get enough rest and avoid stress, since being tired or overly upset can make your symptoms worse. Your healthcare provider may be able to suggest other things that might make you feel better.
Besides changing diet and lifestyle to control symptoms, most people with Crohn's disease are treated with medications. In severe cases of Crohn's disease, a person may need surgery to remove the diseased part of the intestine.
