Who Makes Colazal?

Healthcare providers often prescribe Colazal® (balsalazide disodium) for the treatment of ulcerative colitis. This inflammatory bowel disease causes symptoms such as diarrhea, stomach pain, and extreme urgency to have a bowel movement. Colazal helps decrease the inflammation associated with this condition, which helps relieve symptoms.

Salix Pharmaceuticals makes Colazal. It comes in capsule form, and is generally taken three times a day. In clinical studies, after eight weeks, up to 55 percent of people taking Colazal had less blood in the stool, compared to just 35 percent of those not taking it.
