Colazal Pills

The prescription drug Colazal® (balsalazide disodium) is approved for the treatment of ulcerative colitis, which is a type of inflammatory bowel disease. The medication is available in one strength and comes in the form of capsules (pills). Colazal is generally taken by mouth three times a day. If possible, you should take this medication at the same time each day to maintain an even level in your bloodstream.
 
For people who have difficulty swallowing, Colazal pills may be opened and the contents sprinkled on a spoonful of applesauce. The entire spoonful should be swallowed immediately. Be aware that staining of teeth or the tongue may occur if the medication is taken this way. To ensure the effectiveness of each dose, take Colazal exactly how your healthcare provider recommends.
