Cimzia Uses

Cimzia is a medication that is used for treating Crohn's disease in people who have not responded well to other treatments. Although it is not a cure, this medication can help relieve the signs and symptoms of Crohn's. Occasionally, healthcare providers may also recommend off-label uses of Cimzia, such as for treating rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and ulcerative colitis.

What Is Cimzia Used For?

Cimzia® (certolizumab pegol) is a prescription medication approved to improve the signs and symptoms of moderately to severely active Crohn's disease in adults who have not responded adequately to other treatments.
 
Crohn's disease is a type of "inflammatory bowel disease," or "IBD." There are several different types of IBD, with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis being the most common. They all cause chronic inflammation in the digestive tract. Although much research is underway, Crohn's disease causes are not well understood.

Although Cimzia is not a Crohn's cure, it is approved to reduce the signs and symptoms of Crohn's disease.
