Cimzia Side Effects

Upper respiratory tract infections, joint pain, and urinary tract infections are the most common side effects that have been reported with Cimzia. Rare but possible side effects include hair loss, anemia, and elevated liver enzymes. Although most side effects of Cimzia are mild and do not require medical attention, you should contact your healthcare provider if you experience seizures, fever, or difficulty breathing.

An Introduction to Cimzia Side Effects

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Cimzia^® (certolizumab pegol). However, not everyone who takes the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Common Side Effects of Cimzia

Cimzia has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occur in a group of people taking the drug are documented and are then compared to side effects that occur in another group of people not taking the medicine. This way, it is possible to see what side effects occur, how often they appear, and how they compare to the group not taking the medicine.

In these studies, the most common side effects of Cimzia included:

Upper respiratory tract infections (such as the common cold) -- in up to 20 percent of people
Urinary tract infections (such as a bladder infection) -- up to 7 percent
Joint pain -- up to 6 percent.
