Canasa for Ulcerative Proctitis

Ulcerative proctitis is a type of ulcerative colitis that affects just the rectum. If you have this condition, your healthcare provider may prescribe Canasa® (mesalamine). This medication comes in the form of a suppository and is approved for use in adults only.

The drug is thought to work by decreasing the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes, chemicals that are associated with inflammation in the colon.
