Canasa and BreastfeedingCanasa and breastfeeding is generally considered a safe combination. When mesalamine (the active ingredient of Canasa) is taken orally, it passes through breast milk. Since Canasa is used as a rectal suppository, however, it is not known whether enough of it is absorbed into the bloodstream to be passed through breast milk. Talk to your healthcare provider about Canasa and breastfeeding so that he or she can make a safe recommendation.
