Problems With Azulfidine

In general, when treating ulcerative colitis with Azulfidine® (sulfasalazine), most people don't experience any problems. However, this does not mean the drug is free from side effects. In clinical studies, the most common adverse reactions included nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite. Rare side effects (which may or may not be related to this medicine) include vertigo, insomnia, and tinnitus.

Fortunately, if a person does experience any problems with Azulfidine, they are usually mild and easily treated, although potentially serious reactions are a possibility. For example, if you experience unusual paleness or bruising, hallucinations, or jaundice while taking this drug, contact your healthcare provider right away.
