Benefits of Azulfidine

If you have a mild-to-moderately active case of ulcerative colitis, you may benefit from Azulfidine® (sulfasalazine), a prescription drug. This medicine can also be used to prevent a relapse of ulcerative colitis symptoms. It comes in the form of a tablet and is typically taken three to six times a day. It works by decreasing the production of certain chemicals in the lining of the colon that lead to inflammation.

The medication also comes in a delayed-release tablet form. This form of Azulfidine has been shown to be beneficial for rheumatoid arthritis. Regardless of the type you take, each dose should be taken at the same times each day. This will help keep an even level in your blood.
