Azulfidine for Ulcerative Colitis

Available by prescription only,
Azulfidine® (sulfasalazine) is a drug used to treat mild-to-moderately active cases of ulcerative colitis, a type of inflammatory bowel disease. It may be used by itself or, in more severe cases, combined with other ulcerative colitis medications. Azulfidine is thought to work by decreasing the production of two types of inflammatory chemicals within the lining of the colon.

In addition to helping treat symptoms of this condition, Azulfidine can prevent symptoms from returning in people who have ulcerative colitis that is in remission.
