Asacol for Ulcerative Colitis

Available by prescription only, Asacol® (mesalamine) is a drug used to reduce inflammation caused by ulcerative colitis. Ulcerative colitis is a type of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that commonly causes symptoms like diarrhea, abdominal pain (stomach pain), or rectal bleeding.

Asacol is approved to treat mild-to-moderately active cases of this condition. Not only is this drug used for treatment -- it can also help prevent the symptoms of ulcerative colitis from returning in people who are in remission. Asacol comes in tablet form and is approved for use in people over the age of 17.
