Apriso Side Effects

Nausea, headaches, and diarrhea are some of the most common side effects reported with Apriso. Some of the side effects that are much less common (occurring in less than 3 percent of people using this drug) include fatigue, joint pain, and hair loss. While most side effects of Apriso are minor, you should seek medical attention immediately if you experience frequent infections, easy bruising, or decreased urine production.

Apriso Side Effects: An Introduction

As with any medicine, side effects are possible with Apriso™ (mesalamine); however, not everyone who takes this medicine will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it well. When side effects do occur, in most cases they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Common Side Effects of Apriso

Apriso has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials in which a group of people taking the drug have side effects documented and compared to another group taking a placebo (a "sugar pill" with no active ingredients). This way, it is possible to see what side effects occur, how often they appear, and how they compare to the group not taking the medicine.

In these studies, the most common side effects of Apriso included:

Headaches -- in up to 11 percent of people
Diarrhea -- up to 8 percent
Upper abdominal pain (stomach pain) -- up to 7 percent
Nausea -- up to 4 percent
Common cold symptoms -- up to 4 percent.
