Studies on Apriso and breastfeeding show that the medication passes through breast milk. There have been reports of diarrhea in nursing infants whose mothers took another drug that contained mesalamine (the active ingredient in Apriso). Is Apriso Safe While Breastfeeding?

Apriso™ (mesalamine) is passed through breast milk. If you are breastfeeding or thinking of breastfeeding, make sure to let your healthcare provider know. Because of the potentially serious side effects that could occur in the nursing infant, the manufacturer of Apriso recommends that Apriso be used with caution in nursing women.
